5 Manly Uses for Black Pepper Essential Oil

Hey there oh manly followers, welcome back to Man versus Oils. Today I am going to do a little mansperimentation into a new oil that recently found its way into the Man Versus Oils household – Black Pepper. What can be the uses for Black Pepper essential oil? Now, if you are like me you are probably wondering why Black Pepper essential oil even exists. I mean I get most of them – you know – citrus, mint, woody resins, herbs – they all make sense. But black pepper? I just had to do some research and write about Black Pepper oil uses! So my goal is to experiment and find out how valuable is Black Pepper oil for Men.

So let’s have a look at my 5 manly uses for black pepper essential oil.

5 Manly Uses for Black Pepper Essential Oil - peppercorns

What is Black Pepper Essential Oil?

So, it turns out that the Black Pepper essential oil is a steam distillation from the unripe fruit of the black pepper tree and not the peppercorns as I was thinking. It is high in monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, which, as natural chemicals are known for their antioxidant activity.

Black pepper has been used in ancient medicines for centuries to treat a whole raft of ailments such as:

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Insect bites
  • Joint pain
  • Tooth decay, and toothaches.

What are the Black Pepper Oil Uses for Men

In the case of essential oils, it seems that black pepper is considered beneficial to many of the same concerns as listed above. Let’s see how it can be effective in our own little masculine world…

Note: In a recent post, I discuss the consumption of essential oils which is a subject that I have always avoided within my posts. Black pepper is one of those oils that is quite regularly listed as an ingredient or substitute for real pepper in cooking (why you would substitute it I have no idea). I have also noticed that the consumption of it is included as a method of use in some of the ailments and uses listed below. I have chosen to keep these in based on the lack of research as to the advantages or danger of ingesting this oil. Personally, I would not consume them but I am happy to leave it to your discretion here.

Black Pepper oil for Diarrhea and Gas

Ok, let’s get the most uncomfortable one out of the way first. Black Pepper Essential

Black Pepper oil Uses: Diarrhea and Gas

Oil is commonly referred to as a good relief agent for an upset stomach including diarrhea and gas. Unlike Peppermint, I couldn’t find any scientific research for this however but as you know, when you are feeling like this, anything you can try that doesn’t make it worse has to be a good thing.

For treatment under these ummm hhh-hmmm circumstances, try the following:

  1. Rub directly onto your stomach, kidneys and temples. Black pepper is not considered a ‘hot oil‘ however I recommend mixing with a tablespoon of carrier oil per 5 drops just to be safe.
  2. Add 2 drops to a herbal tea, boiling water or antacid.

Joint and muscle stiffness. Is Black Pepper an Efficient Oil?

I have discussed a number of remedies for stiff and sore muscles throughout my site but if you do not have any Panaway or Peppermint handy, then you could try some Black pepper instead. In the interests of maintaining mansperiment credo with this one I did try it out. It worked well with the peppermint and I actually didn’t mind the aroma either. To use on stiff or sore muscles:

  1. Mix 3 drops of each oil per tablespoon of carrier oil (add more drops to suit).
  2. Rub into affected joints and muscles before and after sport or exercise.

Black Pepper Essential Oil Helps with Fatigue and Stress

As those of you familiar with my site can attest, I have undertaken quite a bit of research over my time into the use of essential oils to assist with both fatigue and stress. Throughout this research, one oil that has always seemed to get a mention in passing, but never strong enough to include, was black pepper.

Personally, I find this oil unappealing in the diffuser on its own (yep, tried it… not a fan) so if it was something that you didn’t mind, I would try mixing it with some other calming and invigorating oils such as citrus or a good grounding essential oil – it actually smells quite good with Pine or Lemon. Essentially, if you like the aroma and find it soothing (which is one of its supposed attributes) then have a play with some others in the diffuser until you find one you like…

For the diffuser:

Mix 2 drops of black pepper and 3 drops of another favorite, grab a nice cool drink and relax…

“Quit Smoking” Made Easier with Black Pepper Oil

With this one it appears as though I have finally discovered a new use for essential oils. I found this one on quite a few pages when I simply typed “black pepper essential oil” into Google. It seems, with some scientific research in tow, that the compound of this oil make it a good suppressant for those who are trying to quit smoking. Apparently, and I am not a smoker so I couldn’t test this one, it works well as a combat agent against the withdrawal symptoms and cravings once you have given smoking the flick. To use:

  1. Add 5 drops to the diffuser (with a good mood calmer) and sit next to it.
  2. Add 5 drops to a good carrier oil and rub onto the temples, behind the ear and onto the wrists.

A Bit of Black Pepper Oil in ‘Food’ Diffuser Blends

Black Pepper oil for Men - spices

And finally, as black pepper is obviously used in its raw form as a food flavoring, I have decided to include it here as it can also be good in food based diffuser recipes. If you are looking to make your house smell all foodie for one reason or another then have a play with black pepper in the diffuser with any of the citrus, herb or spice oil (I know – this one is a stretch but 5 options on the heading sounds better than 4 right?). Some examples include:

Stuffed Roast

  • 6 drops Rosemary
  • 4 drops Sage
  • 2 drops Thyme
  • 1 drop Black Pepper

Fruit Pie

  • 5 drops Tangerine
  • 3 drops Black Pepper
  • 3 drops Oregano

Conclusion

So there you have it… some manly uses for good old Black Pepper Essential Oil. If you have a bottle, why not give these a go. Do you have any experience with this oil? If so, please comment below and I will be sure to add it to this post.

Until next time

Have fun
